14 Day Cooling Off Period (Car Insurance)

Afternoon all - first post as a newbie, shall try to be concise as possible !

Yesterday, applied for a new car insurance policy with Budget. Agreed to take out legal protection plus breakdown cover (Breakdown cover was an extra £60 or so). Paid via my M&S Mastercard in one lump sum.

Last night found out from the wife that we have free cover with Green Flag through our bank, so said i'd ring today and ask for it to be removed (and refunded of course).

Told we could take it off the policy but wouldn't get a refund and if we cancelled the entire policy we would get back the premium less cancellation charges, less the £60 breakdown cover.

So you know what my question is - can they do this (i.e. the breakdown being non refundable) - haven't received any documents through yet, wasn't informed on the telephone about the lack of breakdown refund, policy start date is 12th May. I can't stop the payment with M&S as has already gone through their system.

More than happy to write to them and complain !
