Hi
Moved into this house Dec 28 and inherited prepayment meters for both utilities.
I have now had them both changed to credit meters, which were changed over in my name and with some (of my) credit still on them (to be applied to my bill when dues)
Previous tenant somehow (on a pp meter?) left owing over £100 which Eon are chasing.
Each time a bill [for him] arrives, I call to advise them of the situation (frustrating in itself when trying to get through the phone system....); they always ask me for a forwarding address which I don't have as I moved into the property when it had been empty for a few weeks.
I am curious to know when they will finally stop sending the letters, which have now ramped up to a threat of a debt collection agency, as my calls and advising them have failed so far.
I remain a customer of theirs and they have this on record but I am looking to switch for this reason alone as all suppliers seem cut from the same cloth in my opinion.

If you have no fowarding address (and cannot obtain this from the LL), do not open any correspondence addressed to the former tenant, but simply mark it 'No longer at this address - Return to sender'. ... and just like YBF, no stamp is required
If you tell the supplier the person they are attempting to contact is no longer is at your address, then that should help too.
Switching supplier will not resolve the issue you have - it is totally unrelated.0 -

I have told them; four times so far.
And yes, I know that switching won't help - the fact that I am being spoken to rudely (and they don't realise/know/check) that I too am a - paying - customer of theirs is what is prompting me (as I have nothing better to do) look at switching.0 -
Hi GotToChange,
Agree here with Wywth, the letters need to be returned to sender.
Is it a rented property? If so we could contact the landlord to try and get the final bill issued to the correct address.
Let me know if I can help further.

Thanks - I was hoping you would see the thread.
It is a rental; not sure now useful the agent would be but am happy to pm their details.
I can of course return the bills - but I do open them to check that they aren't - as they have been - circulars. And I cannot see why my calling is not good enough.0 -
Thanks GotToChange,
Send the bills back if they're not addressed to you.
Yes if you have the landlords details that would be excellent. You can email me at WebForumAdvisors@eonenergy.com.

If it is addressed to the previous tenant, send the mail back unopened, circular or not circular.0 -
Send 'em back until you get fed up with doing so and then chuck 'em away. It's what I've taken to doing after two and half years.
Poor woman downstairs died three years ago and EDF still send her electric bills. Actually they send letters that tell that her estimated use for the next year is nil kwh. I did call them to say there's nobody living there now but they said they couldn't take my word for it so will still send stuff. What a waste of money.0 -

That's a slightly different situation.
The flat downstairs still belongs to someone or perhaps is still going through probate. Bills are still due.
It may be they have been for £0.00 if there is no usage, but with most suppliers following Ofgems guidelines and introducing daily standing charges, an amount will probably become due soon even if there is no usage.
Why are you opening the post of the deceased woman downstairs anyway?0 -

I'll tell you why. Because nobody knows her next of kin or relatives whereabouts, the HA are not interested and don't want the lettters, returning to sender has no effect so best to open them and try to contact the sender. Doing so did no good with the electric company. And it is of interest to me to know what's happening because if they are going to get a court order to come in for some reason I need to know as we have a common front door. Similarly I opened the water company's letter eventually, after sending so many back, to find that they were intending to cut off the water because they thought that someone was there and not paying. As we have a common water feed, that would have also have cut off mine. I was able to contact them and get their assurance that they would not do this.
Is that okay with you, you being the post police an' all? Or would you like more details? You haven't yet asked why downstairs is still empty so I'll wait for that one.0 -
Housing Association place.
Interesting to see who will pay then.
I read elsewhere that HA cap (disconnect) the supplies when a property is empty.
Not sure if that is true.
If it is, there won't be any ongoing charges (as there is no supply)
If it isn't (which is what the continuation of bills suggests) then it will be the HA that will be responsible. (until they get another tenant for it)
I suggest you have a word with the HA and tell them to sort it out with the supplier.0
