More of a whinge than anything

If one more member of my family says "it's only a cat" once more I swear I may kill them. They may seem like a horrible ball of fluff to you but to me they are one of my children and I will strive to do everything possible to make sure they are healthy and happy like I do my daughter.

All I did was ask you to let my DD know that the kitten has picked up. She was worried as he didn't eat his breakfast (normally he eats his and then tries to muscle in on Salems), wouldn't play, and looked a little sorry for himself.

All I asked was you to do was to tell her "her dad's at home and Gizmos fine. He's ate some dinner and is running around attacking Salem. He'd coughed up a fur ball like I said but he's going to keep an eye on him just in case". I didn't ask for a lecture about how I shouldn't have got another kitten yet and how "it's only a cat".

Rant over, I may now be able to be civilised when i speak to you later!!!

I feel for you - when mine died I was told... "it's only a cat", "they were never going to live forever" and "maybe have a child instead". Urm yeah ok.

LJ know just what you mean we had the same when our cat Sophie was very poorly last year. Vet bill ended up at 2.5K and the amount of people who said we should have just had her put down. She only had a blockage in her stomach so nothing that couldn't be fixed.

One woman even said that she would have rather have spent the money on a holiday I nearly scratched her eyes out.

Sophie is one of our fur-babies (we have several). You wouldn't put a child down over something like that so why does it being an animal mean it deserves an other level of care.

I think you can really tell a lot about a person if they can make comments like that.

That attitude does my nut in!! My family are just the same, and can be so rude and condescending about how attached I am to my cats - it caused big issues when I said that there's very few people that I care about as much as my animals :p

i am a cat mad lady! i have been on my own for more years than i'd like, and the one constant had been my cat Sugar (in avi pic). i'd had her since she was a tiny kitten and she was 22yo when she was pts. She meant more to me than anyone. She never judged, criticized, and gave me her unconditional love/affection.

She was not just a cat, as are all loved family pets.
Cats don't have owners - they have staff!! :D:p
