Irrelevant / not the customers problem!

How is enquiring how the OP manages to read the meter irrelevent / not the customers problem?

I noticed the OP has been on MSE today, but opted not to respond in this thread.
I would have thought this was quite an important issue for the OP at the present time ... but perhaps not
  • Can t they just stand on a chair, thats what I do, we re talking of only a couple of feet in the air here, not up a skyscraper. This is worse than the council needing 2 people to change a lightbulb. Surely they can carry a fold up platform affair in the van to get the job done. I just shake my head in dismay when I hear of these health n safety procedures. I ve been up 20 foot ladders reading meters sometimes, no probs.

The suppliers can resite the meter, but will choose not to.
If the customer has special needs, then the supplier might even pay the distributor to reposition the cut out.
if i recall correctly a meter can be positioned 2 metres (length of tailing) from cut out?

Suppliers will normally only move the meter vertically (cables should run vertically these days) so if the area below the meter is a door this isn't going to be possible. To get the service moved is a DNO job and is normally not cheap.

Spiro is correct, also the backboard will need moving
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

He may be correct, but its pedantism to the extreme on behalf of the supplier. There is no apparent reason why they cant move it.
If the meter is above the door, anyone replacing it would have to be 'working at height'.
Obviously if there are no easy locations ie its in an entrance hallway and no safe position for it, then thats a different scenario

Theres hundreds and thousands of electric meters high up over doorways. I know of whole estates with all the meters being at least 6 foot high. any meter fitter turning up and running away like a big girl because of a fear of heights should nt be in the job. I think some refuse just to get out of what looks like a slow and awkward job, some do the same if they are tucked away at floor level deep under the stairs. Then, the get-out clause is " its because its too near the gas meter " latest regs etc, and off they go, leaving the long suffering householder bewildered and angry after waiting in all day
indeed...or the fuse is asbestos...job cancelled and fitter paid an abortive visit

righto, should you be touching the main fuse then meter fitter?

I was referring to your asking how the meter operator would move it.

There is no length limit to the incoming tails from the cutout..
I have fitted out communal rooms in blocks of flats with over 10m runs...
But there must be an isolator on the customers tails no more than 3m from the meter though!!

I have mounted a new meter board lower down and tailed down to it and back up in the past....
as already requested try and post a photo if you can!!
