Statins

Hi all, my wife has just started on low dose statins, will do some research about the pros and cons.

But what interests me is that she only gets a prescription for one months supply at a time. Is this the same for everybody that's on them?

Same for me, I have to see the nurse for blood pressure etc in between. Don't know why this is though.
Oh dear, here we go again.

There is no proof in existence anywhere that statins reduce the mortality rate in women , this is because after years of testing and trying to fumble the statistics to suit the pharma companies they couldn't find any because it quite simply doesn't exist ,They do not work on women!!! when you ask your GP about this they will happily quote to you the results of the west coast of Scotland study to you as proof of the effectiveness of statins, whilst this study doesn't really match up to the hype if you study the statistics for it your next question should be " why was the study conducted only on men?( there's your warning right there), what statins actually do is slowly dissolve your muscle tissue which In turn finds it way into your kidneys and causes them to fail prematurley, please don't be shy about asking for proof that they work on women as this is your body you are putting them into, it may interest you to know they are also the most profitable drug ever manufactured to date , this is all commonly available information , GP's have a way of earning a bonus every year and bumping their salaries called the QOF or Quality Outcome Framework , this works by GP's showing they have prescribed lots of preventative medicine to their patients in an effort to stem future health problems, hence the pushing of statins onto anybody and everybody , Ask to see Evidence or mortality rate reduction in women through statination while you still have kidneys that work, when they can't produce any use your common sense

" the great cholesterol con" by doctor Malcolm kendrick is a mine of statination information
  • This provides some easy to understand facts but I guess you would also have to buy one extolling the virtues and then make your own mind up!

I get a three months prescription but have been on them for years. As my cholesterol level was 10 when I was 30 and very slim and my father died young from heart problems I am happy to take them.

I trust my doctor and she said it is up to me whether I take them but I have read enough about statins to make decide to continue taking them.

Good post:) As a woman I was aware of this and wouldn't take statins which my GP recommended about 8 years ago. My only symptom was what they called "high cholesterol" no heart probs, no ill health at all.

I have now got my chol levels down to a normal range without ever taking a statin and am still alive and kicking.:)

I quit smoking, altered my diet completely, lost weight and took up more exercise. It wasn't rapid but I'm considered "normal" now.

Many people do get awful side effects from statins and I have met countless people whose lives have been so badly affected that they cannot enjoy a normal life.

    My wife's level was 6.4.
She has been a size 10 all of her life and she eats a very healthy low fat diet. So I don't see how it can be lowered naturally.

    Does she smoke?
Doesn't have to be a low fat diet.
