Flight Tax Rebates, if you do not board your flight

If for a reason of illness you do not board your flight for which you have paid, what is the position on obtaining a rebate for the Air Tax every passenger has to pay. I appreciate you cannot get a refund on the flight itself but I would have thlought you would be entitled to a refund of the air tax imposed by by the government imposed on each passenger, and included in the price you pay for your Flights. What are you rights are far as this is concerned

Have you checked the terms and conditions of the airline to see whether they have an admin charge for it?You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0

In general you are entitled to get APD back, although as unholyangel says the admin charges ofter wipe this out. However, (this is only a guess) it may depend on when you became ill, if it was after you checked in then possibly the airline could say you were part of its manifest at that point and they wouldn't know you weren't going to fly until you didn't show up at the gate.
You might be better posting on the Overseas Holidays or Flights board.0 -
It does not matter what the reason was for not using your tickets you will be able to get a refund on all of the unused taxes, fees and charges with the exception of the fuel surcharge so not just the APD.
If you did not fly then you can claim it back from the airline but there will be a admin charge, if you booked via an agent then try the airline first as its likely the agent will ramp up the admin fee to cover their costs for applying for the refund, depending on the type of ticket the airline may refer you back to the agent.
If you couldn't fly due to illness then first port of call would be your insurance if you had any and were covered for the problem.0 -

At that stage they would uncheck them in so they wouldnt have to pay the tax.0
