Forgot to change my address on driving licence.
Hi all,
I've recently been thinking about moving house, and as such have been having a big clear out - ebay, facebook selling pages, sorting out documents etc... and whilst doing so, I came across a few things. One being an old savings account that I forgot that I'd had, so I phoned the bank up and they gave me a balance of a few quid, which is great - a little unexpected windfall. Unfortunately, they needed proof of my current address before they will transfer the funds to me.
I found my driving licence...and it seems that for the last 7 years it's had the wrong address on it. I feel certain that I changed it at the time of my move, but obviously with everything else going on at the time, I must have forgotten.
My concern is now, that I've been on-line to change it and it is asking how long I've been at my current address - 7 years - I couldn't continue with the application as I didn't have all the details. But I'm now worried that they will fine me for not changing the address, despite the fact that it was an honest oversight. Is this likely?
I honestly cannot remember how this came about. I'm usually quite good with things like this, but this must have escaped my mind.

I never changed mine when i left home for many years. That was about 7 years also i think. Didn't have a problem.
If its a photo card license - check its still valid - as they only last 10 years.0 -
Thanks. I will do.
What did you put down when they asked about length of time at the new address?
EDIT: Just checked, the photo card is valid until 2014. ;-)0 -

I changed it just after another move - so id only been at the address a few weeks. If your defo moving then do it then.
I don't think they take action anyway - although they can fine you. Think that would only be in fraudulant cases though.0 -
I can't do that, as I need a valid driving licence and passport to get at my funds in my savings account. I will simply try to change it and hope for the best ;-)
Thanks for the advice ;-)0 -

No you don't.
Every institution has a list or more accurately more than one list. You need to provide at least one primary item and one secondary item.
This could be a passport or driving license but can equally be documentation from HMRC, tax credits, etc. This is not to validate your address but you.
The second item will validate your address and could be a bank statement, council tax bill etc.
Most places have a leaflet describing what you need.
They will say photo ID because that is easier for them but what if you don't have a passport or a a driving license ? Ask for their form.0 -
Indeed.
I don't get tax credits and I haven't got a bank account (aside from that savings account and they don't issue statments and the address is wrong, hence the start of this journey ;-). The list includes these things. The only things on the list I can provide are a driving licence, and subsiquently a passport once I get it renewed.
The DVLA site doesn't list utility bills as a form of ID.
The only forms of ID I have are my driving licence and out-of-date passport. I do have my birth certificate somewhere, but most places don't accept this any longer. Other than that, I don't have any ID at all.0
