this is not to do with winning but where prizes are based. I live in the south west & we rarely have any local prizes such as tickets or chances to see films or meals out etc
things like concerts are often so far away it costs an obscene amount to travel.
I notice that Yorkshire, Midlands, Manchester, Edinburgh & Glasgow seem to have loads of local comps - don't get me started on London
What is wrong with Bristol?

Funny, I was only thinking this yesterday!! So many of the local comps to win stuff like meals in restaurants, are in either Scotland or the Midlands! I live in Liverpool and there never really seems to be anything much that's locally specific - the one thing I did win from a local comp was pantomime tickets that never materialised
I've seen a few "local" comps posted but they've been for things like vouchers for national chains, or stuff that pretty much anyone could enter!0 -
I live in such a remote area and the nearest city is over 100 miles away believe it or not! So these Spa Days and day trips or tickets are no good for me unless they come with an over night stay, although in some cases even an overnight stay wouldn't do because it would take me a whole day to travel there and a day to travel back so hardly seems worth it. I guess in my situation it's not really anyones fault I live so far away from everything, maybe I should just moveA closed mouth gathers no feet.0

I know what you mean - it's a bit unfair! If only they threw in the travel costs and a hotel as well..

I live in Devon and have won quite a few locally based prizes. It's all relative though - there are loads more venues in the bigger cities so there will be more prizes on offer.0

Can't complain, I live in Birmingham
I won tickets for Girls Aloud, with travel and overnight stay and breakfast included for a concert in, funnily enough, Birmingham, lol
The PR man had the audacity to ask if I still needed the hotel stay!! As if I'd say no!You'll have to speak up; I'm wearing a towel0 -

Coming from just over the bridge (Newport) - I have to say there are quite a lot of local comps. Sometimes I'll enter those on the link I've put on because Bristol is easy to get to, and if a prize is something I really want (days out etc) I'll enter them - the VIP trip to Longleat cost about £100 in travel with trains and taxis but compared to the weekend we had, it was nothing!
All the best xxThanks to all posters :A0 -
I am from the South West too and often see ones where there are concerts at various venues and Bristol is one of them. Also some for weekends at Bath.0

Its so irritating though that there are hardly any Devon based prizes!0

I live in Cumbria and am an hour from the nearest motorway, let alone City!!:D:D
That's why lots of UK holiday/hotel stay comps I have to dismiss because unless they include travelling costs they would be too expensive to go.:wall:

If you're in Bristol, check out the local free papers like 'The Observer' too.
Occasionally, they have "entry form" competitions in them for vouchers for shops or tickets for shows.
Or go into your local library and pick up the free local newsletters, they sometimes have competitions for local businesses in them.
Good luck!
EDIT: just remembered, that I won once from a junk mail advert put through my letter box - it was a booklet from Airbus at Filton and there was a competition on the back to win a goody bag, there was an entry form with a few questions (All the answers were in the booklet) which I won!
I have seen similar comps on the Wessex Water leaflets we get occasionally too.
So my advice - is to check your junk mail carefully!Value of prizes 2010 - 2017: £8374 Wins 2022: Magic set
