I'm in the Southwest too, and think it is another reason why it would be useful to enable tags on comps, so we could ensure we dont miss the few relevant comps that are posted, because most 'meals out' etc comps could be overlooked as they hardly ever occur down our way :D
I smile because I have absolutely no idea what's going on

Now that we have Compers Corner, I suppose there would be nothing to stop us starting a thread in Compers Corner and calling it say South West Area Chat thread". (I actually live in Swindon). We could then chat about any comps we have seen within say a 50 mile radius of Bristol and put links in the thread to any comps on the main board where we think the prize is of local interest. If other people wanted to start a similar thread for say Glasgow, then they could.

I will start a thread now and hope that some of you others will join me there to save me being a loner.

That's hardly very south west.... I used to live in the South West 165 miles from Bristol and there was another 50 miles further west than me.

One of the problems with geographically decided regions is too many people follow some arbitrary map that puts Bristol as the main city, when it's right up at the tip of a very long geographical strip South West should be cut up.

The bottom line is that competitions are trying to attract people to a local area/place, so they concentrate on densely populated areas.... there are also fewer businesses in sparsely populated areas with enough budget/clout/interest in running contests.

Ok - as you think it is too big an area, I will change it to Bath, Swindon and Bristol chat thread. Then if say anyone from Devon wants to start a chat thread for just that, they could do.

If there is not enough interest to warrant a thread so local, then it will die a natural death anyway.

  • I live near Bristol rather than in Bristol & our local paper never has any comps - I don't drive so have to rely on public transport to get there & sometimes it isn't feasible as many attractions around here seem to be in the middle of nowhere. I enter comps in Cardiff as that's near where my Dad & sister & BFF live and there seem to be more there than Bristol
