boiler repair, not done yet, can i get a refund

Hi, long story short, the boiler (combie) broke and we had luke warm water and heating on / off for a week. boiler cover via halifax won't pay anything as its caused by sludge?? yesterday i spoke to help-link and they quoted £800 to repair it, as we've endured warm showers and a cold house for a week, i say "do it" and paid on my mastercard.
thinking about it last night and i've thought of getting a second / third quote. (1, to find a better price and 2, to see if i really need to pull my cupboards / tiles off the wall as per the help-link engineers request )

i've called british gas and they're sending someone out this am.
if they're cheaper can i call help-link and ask for a refund seeing as i haven't had any work done by them yet?

cheers
jake

Get a local independent Gas Safe installer to give you a quote. BG and the like will charge you top prices.

How can you possibly say that?, bg for a start have a 3 tier price system which lots of people win on as it's time based rather than part cost. Independents almost always win the day on installations....nowhere near as often on repairs.
  • just to update, ( i hate when people post and ask stuff but never feedback what happened).
I called Help-link, (the morning before the job was due to be done) and explained that i had an engineer from BG in the kitchen (i called BG at 0800hrs, the engineer was here at 0945 and the job done by 1300hrs) who was stripping the boiler as we spoke. they took my card details and refunded the money there and then, no problems and no questions asked.

the cost to BG £300, that included a spirotrap, which i requested to be fitted!! i don't have a bad word about BG. Lee was the engineer from wednesfield - TOP guy!

    heres the episode
