with Valentines Day next week, can i alert people who may get flowers that lily pollen is toxic to cats.
If they brush against the flowers they will get it on their coats and ingest it when they wash.

I had better not receive flowers as I HATE them. Nice to look at but I too am allergic. I'm severely allergic to lavendar too, most people know now but I have trouble sleeping ( which lots also know ) and received a sleeptherapy gift set once... great thought and idea but it would have ended me in hospital - loaded with lavender arghhh!0

I can vouch for the toxicity of lilies. My OH bought me flowers as I was ill and we put them in the dining room as Salem kept plaing with them (he wasn't allowed in the dining room). He managed to sneak in when the door wasn't shut properly and ate 4 of the staemen (sp).
I didn't know how highly toxic they were but as soon as he started being sick I knew something was wrong. We rushed him to the emergency vets and he ended up staying there for 2 days before being transfered to his normal vets for the last day of his treatment.
He luckily suffered no kidney damage due to getting him there so quickly but now has an increased risk as he gets older. We also luckily had pet insurance which covered the bill (over £1000). It was the most horrifying ordeal I have ever been through and would never have allowed lilies in the house had I known. We now have a no live plant or flower rule, better to be safe than sorry.0
