Are Shearings / Thomas Cook / others going bust?

Hi I am in need of advice I am looking at booking my mother on a holiday but having read many negative reviews, seen financial details on companies house and read today in the travel press news that 70 holiday companies as at severe risk of going bust this year with a strong chance that some major companies are going bust ? Which company is safe and how can I be safe?

Having read that Shearings was up for sale a few years ago and recent financial reports suggest it is in financial trouble along with Thomas Cook who were also bailed out by the banks in previous years - what travel company can I trust and is it actually safer these days to book with non UK companies for more protection? What is the safest solution? Should I be trusting companies house figures?

Pay by Credit card ( not debit) use a ABTA registered company are you thinking of going overseas ? Get travel insurance before you book a hollybobs that proper covers companies going to the wall. Thomas Cook(inc thompson & first choice) are one of the biggest and would really tumble if that went. I know its a worry but out of your hands so dont loose sleep on what might happen.
