Ferry to Spain - Brittany Ferries Santander Portsmouth

I need to book a ferry from Santander to Portsmouth (car, dog, 2 people). This is the only route from Spain to England that accepts dogs. It is run by Brittany Ferries. The quotes I am getting are way in excess of £1000 which seems a bit steep as Brittany Ferries have cornered the market. Does anyone know a good alternative or how to get better deals on Brittany Ferries? Are there any promotions or special offers?

    I have driven through France and got a ferry from Le Harve/Cherbourg with my dog. Including an overnight stay in France it was much cheaper
