Asda credit card but owned by Santander - confusing I know and now even more confusing as the card cant be used anymore. No more online checking of account - I did receive an email with a link to update my details to enable me to still view my account online.. but the link would not work. Now i am receiving my monthly statements by post - which is not convenient. I do wonder how long it will be before they ask for the balance to be paid in full - can they do this?
I meet my payments each month but I do wonder the state of things
and why the Asda card ceased.

More likely they'll write and tell you that no further credit will be allowed. As long as you keep up the repayments (meeting or exceeding the minimum payment), they'll keep the account open.
Might be easier to BT it to another card with online servicing?0 -
Think this might help...
Although I've only applied for the new ASDA Money credit card, I've seen a lot of information on the site about the old one... (run by Santander)
(I can't post links as a new user... if you go to ASDA Money website - via a search engine even - then click on credit card, then scroll down to the bottom and there's a link to information about the 3 "old" ASDA credit cards...)
ASDA Money is now run by Sygma Bank, not Santander (new agreements, etc) so if you'd like the new card, you have to apply for it (no transfers).
Good luck!0 -
Thank you - what a joke with the new credit card Asda Money... Just another way to get folk to open yet another card!
Yes i may try to transfer my original Asda credit to another card but clueless who. I intend to pay it all off over a period of time not add to it .. it was meant as an emergency back up for student son - food shop etc. He has now graduated, card needs clearig and closing.0 -

How exactly are you suggesting ASDA benefits from getting you to "open yet another card"? Particularly as they are the ones who decided to close the old card down.0 -
Santander's (and the earlier GE Money) 'Asda' card were good. They both gave 1p/l off Asda petrol and 5% off at Asda non food (George/Home etc.) They were also easy to deal with.
In my view the new Asda Money card is disappointing in comparison just offering 1% cash back on Asda purchases.
Worse than that though my wife and I did not have a clue who Sygma B were when we got up this morning and discovered a £500 direct debit had been taken by them from her current account. Having just spent the morning investigating the charge with her bank and ultimately disputing the direct debit believe me we now know. We also know this is a step backwards for Asda Money and their customers.
Firstly Sigma seem unconcerned that operating under the Asda Money in all matters except the Direct Debit is not professional behavior from a 'Bank'. Like me, Mastercard Global, think otherwise and have accepted a complaint. Surely it is not beyond the wit of man to make reference to Asda in the direct debit reference?
Sigma Bank also have no means of accepting a verbal complaint so presumably they have no means of ever improving.
In conclusion Sigma use other company's brands to get custom. Once they have they assume the hold over customers afforded by the debt removes the need for professionalism and customer service.
It seems from other posts they may offer 'easy' credit which maybe their niche.0 -

I'm not surprised they are unconcerned - it's common sense. If you owe £500 on a new ASDA card and a £500 direct debit gets taken by a bank, common sense dictates that it's for the card... And how exactly is it a "step backwards"? It makes no difference to anything. It's not "beyond the wit of man" no, but nor is it "beyond the wit of man" to piece together that the direct debit was for the Asda Money card - clearly no-one is perfect.
Why? You clearly have the ability to write something down - if you can't be bothered to write a letter and send it to them then that surely shows how trivial the issue you're moaning about is.
Your "conclusion" makes little sense. If you think not including the word Asda in the direct debit description and not accepting verbal complaints is proof that they don't care about "professionalism or customer service" then I don't think you're going to be happy with anyone... And yes, they do specialise in "easy" credit, but I don't see what that has to do with anything? Are you too good for that?0 -

Sygma took over Asda Cards back in Dec 2012. So have you never recieved any paperwork re this....
If not perhaps you need to check they have your update details.
The Asda Money Credit Card is issued by Sygma Bank UK. Creation and Sygma Bank UK are the trading names in the United Kingdom of Sygma Banque SASigma Bank also have no means of accepting a verbal complaint so presumably they have no means of ever improving.

No bank/card provider can refuse to take a complaint over the phone. In conclusion Sigma use other company's brands to get custom. Once they have they assume the hold over customers afforded by the debt removes the need for professionalism and customer service.
So just the same as when Santander took over GE Money.
No you got that the wrong way round....
It is ASDA that have chosen Sygma. As all ASDA are concerned is who will allow them to provide a ASDA branded card at a price that makes them money.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
didnt you have to also re-apply? if so read the contractDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
