Title says it all really - am useless :o

I'm going to start February as the start of the new year as my resolutions to lose weight and save money kind of fell apart on the 18 Jan when I had to reapply for my job, my son's birthday party was cancelled due to snow leaving me with 25 mini babybels and 24 bags of Wotsits all to myself. I couldn't get out out the house beause of about 30cm of snow, throwing the menu planning and running plan off course and takeaway being the menu choice.

Luckily, the 4lb I lost at the start of January was still off this morning on the scales and I'm back on the road to self improvement, one month at a time.

For the next three weeks until payday I will:
  1. Lose 2-4lb
  2. Run 5k three times per week
  3. Earn an extra £150 pound
  4. Save £600 towards holiday :o Just need to do this for next two months while we are in free council tax months
We don't have debt as such, but that's because previous debt is in the mortgage which is much bigger than it should be (60K), but is on an SVR of 2.5%, we are overpaying it and we do have a equity in the house. Bigger plan is to pay off the mortgage in the next 8 years, leaving me and DH 20 years left to work and have the freedom to decide whether to be mortgage free for that time or to get a house in a nicer area, where neighbours don't grow a berluddy cannabis farm in the loft or have fisty cuffs in the street
Other than that I am blessed with a happy family with two unruly children (7 and 1), an unruly DH and even more unruly people to deal with at work but I love me job :p

So here we go with week 1 :D

    Wed 6 Feb:
Today was a good day. I got an email from a postal gold company and they are sending me a £50 cheque for a rubbish cheap gold chain I sent them, from what I remember I bought this for DH in the late 1990's for about £40 :money:

I also did my weekly food shop in Al*i and As*a and this came to £60 including a new mop which I am desperate for.

    Tomorrow after work I will:
    • Ring RAC as I need to cancel renewal and find somewhere cheaper. The two call outs I've had this year have been because I flattened the battery and I filled the diesel tank with petrol (ouch) so I think my premium will have gone up somehow :o:o
    • Make a glazed ham
    • Make pork, bean and chorizo casserole in the slow cooker
    • Check bank account
    • Try to eat below 1200 cals
I will also try to go running in the working day
  • Hi

Have you checked your car insurance? My RAC is included in the premium.
Aiming to get healthy in 2014.

    Hi

Have you checked your car insurance? My RAC is included in the premium.

That's a good idea, will investigate. Am on hold to RAC now. Just as well its a free phone number.
  • I managed today to:
    • Eat below 1200 cals
    • Pay an old NI bill. It was just £26.50 but I didn't want to risk the wrath of HMRC. Just been chatting to a friend who's been landed with a huge tax bill
    • Ham is simmering in ginger ale now.
    • Made Thai green coconut and noodle soup for work tomorrow
    • Have just spoken to RAC and they're taking the payment of £196 from our CC tonight  thing is we cleared that card last year and I think it will bounce as its an old account number. If not RAC have offered to refund as I genuinely didn't get a renewal notice.
    • Checked bank account, not pleasant as we'd slipped into OD after Christmas but I think we may claw this back by end of month if I can make some money on eBay.
    Didn't manage
    • Run in the working day. Was too busy, maybe tomorrow will be better
    • Pork and chorizo casserole which is fine as I got the noodle soup done instead and tomorrow nights meal is planned.
    Tomorrow I will
    • List six items on eBay
    • Investigate breakdown cover and ring RAC to get a refund, if necessary.
    • Write a letter to mortgage lender to change address
    • Eat under 1200 cal
    • I think a run is a bit unrealistic as I have an office duty slot between 12-5pm and it'll be dark when I get home. Will try on Saturday PM.
  • Well not a bad day. Cancelled the RAC policy whih was £196 and got a refund. Getting breakdown through my insurance was £95 and this was only for me, not joint. I've found a Greenflag policy for £167 which allowed me to pay monthly as we only have £350 in the 'Car' account and DH needs £100 of that for a repair on his brakes and handbrake cable. I bought this through Quidco and have been promised £50 cashback. :money:

Feel rough as a dog with a sore throat and tickly cough so having a peppermint tea with honey then off to bed. Everything else can wait...

Still feel rough today :( had busy day with DS and DD, swimming lessons then a photoshoot with the family (paid for by SIL) this afternoon. DD caused havoc she's only 1 and does NOT like new people, poor photographer :p Got ham in oven with glaze now (that's only taken two days to make :o) and having jacket spuds with various fillings soon. Pleased as I was *this* close to ordering takeaway later.

Feeling sleepy again now, can't see me getting much else achieved tonight as its all a bit of an effort. *violin smilie*

How much breakdown cover do you need, assuming you now have a new battery and a heightened awareness of diesel ? I argued theAA down to one call out for a ridiculously small amount when I was unemployed.

I didn't know you could get options such as one call out. We both have old cars and need them for school runs and work as we're semi rural and we head off 15 miles in opposite directions every morning, so I guess I want to have peace of mind. ETA - I did speak to RAC about lowering the price but they only reduced to £172 so still more than Greenflag.

I'm not really useless, just a bit self deprecating minus the humour some days :) but you're right, useless is not a nice word and I would never use it for anyone but me!
  • I'm still poorly, stocking up on Lemsip and peppermint tea before bedtime. Been in bed early all weekend and other than freezing on a rugby pitch yesterday while DS played, Sunday was a non entity. DH was a star though and made roast belly pork, mashed spud, yorkshire puds while we were at rugby. I'll ignore the fact he used up the belly pork which was meant for the pork and chorizo casserole :p

Just checked bank account and it hasn't changed since Friday, not bad.

Looking at my goals, all I've done in five days is saved money for our holiday. Although being ill may help me to lose weight?
