Cost of a Provisional Driving Licence ?

I've just been to the online site to apply for a licence for my son but am confused at the fees quoted. This what it says:

Your Chosen Application: PROVISIONAL
Application Fee Paid Online: £30
Fee Paid to DVLA on return of your completed application: £50
Total Fee Payable: £80

Am I right in thinking that the licence basically costs £50 but if I apply online there's also a £30 fee ?! Because it's not actually an online application but more of a application checking service ? I assumed that doing it online would be easier and possibly cheaper.

Which site are you getting that from, make sure you use the official government site not one of the online companies that charge a fee.

pay £50 by MasterCard, Visa, Electron, Maestro or Delta debit or credit card

Aah. No I've still got my money. I was in a bit of a hurry to just find out the costs, how to do it etc and the site seemed official looking. Having just been back again I see that it is not. Thank you for pointing out that I need to look more closely.
