e-mail hosting services

I have been using mail2web for a number of years to pick up e-mails from an account I had linked to my self employed business but over the last week I can't get access to it.
the email address is an ali@ali.co.uk type address and I can't get past the login screen despite trying on a number of different computers.
There doesn't seem to be a problem with the website, just my details as the main page seems to be ok.
This is the only way I am able to access that e-mail account, does anyone know of any other similar services that offer free access to e-mail accounts?

Email is free to access anywhere. I would be speaking to the email hosting provider, whoever set up the email for you, and getting them to reset your password.0

I don't know who the email host is. The email address is my name@my business name.co.UK and I am not in touch with the person who set it up. It was an ex colleagues husband.
I checked the site with my hotmail account and it opened fine so the problem seems to be my password or email address.
Any ideas how I find out what it is or if I can reset the password myself? If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -

It may be that your hosting or domain registration has expired - have you ever paid anyone anything for it?
You need to work out who the host is, so that you can contact their support.
If you go to whois.com and put in your domain name (the bit after the @ in your email address) and press "Search Now", then click on the WhoIs link next to your domain then that should tell you who the host is.
If it is not clear then post what is shown as the nameservers and someone on here will be able to identify the host from that (don't worry, no one can identify you from the nameserver details).0 -
I would definitely second the suggestion of going to whois.org and finding out who your domain is registered to (you, your friend, someone else) and who is the registrar (the company it was registered with - such as 123-reg, 1&1, fasthosts.co.uk etc)
Fingers crossed its your name that appears on the registration and not the name of the person who set it up for you.
on whois.com it should also tell you when it was registered and, more importantly, when it expires.
If not already done so, I would do this asap as if its expired then you only have a limited amount of time to re-register it before its goes back on open sale. If its a memorable or common name then its probably already appeared on a watch list somewhere and someone will pounce on it the second it becomes available.0 -
thanks I will do that tonight and report back. thanksIf you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

It is registered in the name of the person who set it up for me and I don't know how to get in touch with him as he doesn't live in the house mentioned on the website.
1 and 1 are the registrars and it expires Nov 2014 and states it is registered until expiry.
I checked mail2web with my hot mail account and it worked so the website doesn't seem to be the problem. I'm wondering now if the account has been hacked and what I can do about it with no access to the account. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
1 and 1 are the registrars
So .... have you looked on their site?
My e mail myname@myaddress.co.ukkkkk is hosted by 1&1
I sometimes access their website to look at my e mails here

Although their support desk has an 0844 number, I have found them quite helpful.

If the domain is not registered to you, but you have been billed and paid for it, then it is possible to get it transferred to your name through nominet, but it would probably take quite some time. If you have no proof you've paid for it, then you've got next to no chance unless you can pick it up if/when it dies a natural death after Nov 2014.
In the meantime, the "forgotten my password" approach might get your access to it restored, but that could also be tricky if you don't have the original details it was set up with.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. I have tried to log in on the 1 and 1 website but no joy so think my account may have been hacked. I don't have any proof I paid for the site but really need access to the account as it has a lot of my business e-mails.
I have e-mailed customer support at 1&1 so hopefully will be able to reset the password or something to enable me to get access again. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -

Its not definite but its possible that it was renewed for 2 years in November 2012 which means someone, somewhere is paying for it.I don't have any proof I paid for the siteI have tried to log in on the 1 and 1 website but no joy so think my account may have been hacked.
If it were me then i'd definitely be trying to phone them for advice on what you do (or do not) have access to.
Numbers below from saynoto0870.com
01753 490405 = Security Team
01753 490402 = Billing
01753 490403 = Customer Service/Tech Support
And if the above fail then 0844 335 1211
PS - You don't say if you are on speaking terms with your ex-colleague or her husband but if not then can you google their name(s) and see if you can find out their details.
Maybe try FaceBook?
The line of least resistance here is to ask the person who it is registered to (who should really have registered it in YOUR name) to transfer it over to you - sometimes there is an admin fee with the registrar but if its a business address then thats probably worth doing. At the very least as them the log on details or to reset the password details for 1&1 and let you know what the credentials are.0
