on the insurance, now we have had plenty of horror stories, I have figured out my level. I have lost all my possessions several times over the years, and not bothered. I travel light, and love car boots, upcycling and junk, so starting again is always an opportunity for a change of style( providing you have the savings to do it). But I would be fed up with having to replaster again, or rebuild staircases and ceiling. And replacing doors and windows. Which part of insurance covers this?

S&S- What cinema(s) do you have near you? I see it's mentioned in your budget. Do you know for example that Vue do an am screening cheaply each w/end and every day in school hols.

Have been shown a thread recently for other cinemas- not relevant for me as Vue is the only one we have, but I'll see if I can find it and link for you.
Here you go- don't know if that is of any help to you.

cheers, losing the one carpet in the house would be a relief lol. As there is nothing wrong with it, we never got round to a new one, but it is ancient.
In fact Im going to take it up and give it away this month, to solve that problem. Not because i worry too much about it not being insured, just because there are beautiful untouched wooden floors underneath. Mission!!0 -
Scrimping&Saving- I saw an earlier post about you camping in France. Is this what you usually do for a hol and if so do you take your car? Have you ever looked at the prices whilst there in the hypermarkets. In recent years there hasn't been the bargains there once was due to the exchange rate, but you might find a better quality wine at a better price than you'd pay here, and I can't imagine it would take you too long to find a local prepared to wax lyrically about wine to you.
We go to France/Belgium at least once a year and bring some alcohol back- usually fruit beers for us (hubby doesn't drink wine) and then we always have some in for when we have friends round for an evening.0 -

I don't know how it compares for price with camping but we found Brittany Ferry Holidays to be well priced compared with paying separately for a ferry and a gite/cottage separately. It might be worth looking at their site as they currently have 25% off many holidays. We stayed in a lovely cottage in Brittany last year (admittedly in May and in term time) that was just £200 in total for 4 of us!sadly the 25% off ended but still good value if you want a Portsmouth ferry rather than driving to Dover.:o

Oh wow that terrible! I too can see your point about insurance. I think its about adding up the potential risk as another poster pointed out, thats an easy one for us as we live in a thatched property so fire risks are quite high
Good luck op on your journeyLBM 1.1.16 = £27096.59 - now £17,020.38

Loving how S'n'S thread is turning into the wine thread! Do Aldi have any stocks of Toro Locco cus that was lush and the wine of choice for all my savvy friends.
I hated cutting back, we were the eat organic/shop at farm shops family. Now reality has hit and I shop at lidl! I also cut the husband and son's hair, my husband colours my hair for me, the gym membership's gone, as has lovefilm. We drink once a week, only go to the cinema for kids am and take flasks and picnics with us when we go out. I check the price of everything before I buy and will wait for a 'deal'.
The worst of it is, I DON'T MISS ANY OF IT!! All thay money wasted. All that interest paid on credit cards for stuff we didn't need. If only I'd worked it out earlier!
So cheers everyone and here's to keeping our money safe.Make £2020 in 2020 £178.81/£2020

Hi S & S, I've read through from the start and I think you're doing brilliantly!! It takes a braver person than me to post your SOA so well done :T
I'm also taking notes on insurance, and (most importantly) wine, so I shall be following with interest.
Don't forget to include your pre-payment certificate in your updated SOA - apologies if its in there already. I know someone said you can get a 3 month one, you can actually get a permanent one, so to speak, that just keeps going for ever on a DD. It costs £10.40 (I think, £10-something anyway) so is well worth it. Its changed my life!! Sorry if you know all this already.
Good luck and keep going xDebt Oct '13 - [STRIKE]£44,076[/STRIKE] £41,578 5.7% cleared0 -

That's such a refreshing post
I'm not broke but I find not being part of the rat pack so liberating as well, chucked sky, dye and cut my own hair, cut hubbies, shop as cheaply as I can ( good food though) cheapie holidays and flights ( 4am is a nice time to get up lol)
But always have enough for a bottle of red and a big bar of choccie to enjoy with my £3 DVD's0
