Using PC PS3 at same time - hub?

Hi,
Hope somebody can help with this. I have my PC connected directly to my modem via ethernet. I have just purchased a PS3 (wi fi built in). I have a wireless router upstairs next to my PC. To use my PS3 (downstairs) i have to disconnect my PC and then connect my router. My question is what would be the cheapest and best way to get this done?
I was thinking of just connecting my router and then buying a wireless card for my pc - but i would prefer only be using the router for the PS3. Could i connect the modem to a hub - then connect the hub to a PC and Router at the same time???
thanks (and hope it makes sense)

i thought most wireless routers had ethernet sockets too. could you not just used them?0

give us the make and model number of the hardware you have.#
Ok im thinking as I type now so bare with me.
It should be possible to have the PC connected to the router and the PS3 it is is a router and not a wireless adaptor that requires you to bridge your connection or somthing.
I have had a PC and PS3 running fia a PC with 2 network cards and an eithernet cable modem.
It is a bit messy but it does work but requires the PC to be on.
I expect it is a config issue. infact I know what you have it is a wireless access point not a wireless router.
You need to buy more hardware. either a wireless router or a cable router both with a 4 port hub/switch.
wireless router you connect that to the modem and the PC with a cable to the router and the PS3 to the router wirelessly
none wireless router, connect the router to the modem it will have a wan port and 4 eithernet ports (LAN) with the wan port, the pc to the one of the LAN ports then the wireless accesspoint goes in to another of the LAN ports.
It all depends on how many boxes you want to have in the house I have an AP and a router seperate mainly because wireless routers were not about when I bought it and I paid £200 for it so to replace it feels like throwing money away. the 2 boxes need 2 plugs so it costs more to run them and there are more things that can go wrong not that they do but they can. you also have the thing that you can turn the wireless off and still use the pc cabled.
another way would be to install a 2nd network card in the pc connect the wireless AP to it and route the connection via the pc but that would need your pc switched on.
Wll a few ideas for you any questions just ask I will try o help out. Like I said I think outloud most of the time so it can come accross garbbled.0 -
I am a bit confused - if you have a wireless ADSL router, why are you using a separate modem?
Why not connect like this...
Phone socket > router > PC, and use the wireless facility of the router to connect to the PS3.
If your router is not an adsl router, and you already have a hub, you could connect like this...
Phone socket > modem > router > PC, and use the wireless facility of the router to connect to the PS3.
Or perhaps I am missing something? Can you post the make and model of your router and modem?0 -

I think the OP has a cable modem with a single Ethernet port on it which he uses to connect to the PC.
when he wants to connect his PS3 he connects a wireless access point to the Ethernet port on the modem effectively making his access wireless.
Another option you and it will be the cheapest would be to buy a wireless adapter for the PC and both access the web wirelessly0 -
You can get ethernet hubs for around £10 and under now, and a wired connection will be much more stable and reliable than wireless

I'd personally just buy a new/second hand ethernet 10/100 switch/hub. Plug the cable modem into it, the ps3 and the pc, sorted!

Yes it would be nice to make things simple but th OP uses the wireless for a reason I expect the pc and ps3 are not in the same room.0
