Help!!! Enforcing consumer rights

hiya

I'm hoping someone can help me.

I have recently bought some material from a large mill/warehouse type shop (not a chain etc) for some curtains. I needed 18ms altogether and ended up spending over £200.

As I have never made curtains before I was abit unsure about how much I needed etc & a shop assistant helped me out- fully aware
I needed the material for curtains sold me some.

When I took them home my mum informed
me the material is upholstery material not made for curtains (the shop assistant did say it was stiff & would need to loosen up- but did sell it as curtain material).

I phoned the shop & spoke to the owner, he said in this instance I can get an exchange, but as the material will be cheaper- I cannot
get a refund for the difference, nor can I have a refund for the job lot.

I believe I am entitled to a full refund as I was
mis-sold the material, however how can I enforce this???

Any help greatly appreciated!!!

mags4matty if you have no proof it would be hard to enforce it though the court of law.

If the assistant doesn't admit he mislead you then it's his word against yours.

To the point, Upholstery and Drapery materials can be interchanged, especially if you want thick heavy curtains.

The assistants comment about it being stiff and needing loosen up for me would imply its not the most suitable material available but possible - so is it possible to use it for curtain?..

Did they recommend the material to you or did you simply ask for x material so you can make curtains?

I take it you picked the material, the assistant would have just pointed out it is a stiff material, but heavy stiff material do make the best curtains. Just make sure you put up a proper pole.

There is very little difference between the two materials, if you like it then make the curtains.
