Energy provider in rented flat?

  • It is of course possible LL/agent have arranged things so your (current) supplier pays them back-handers..

I understand this is the case (but may be wrong..) with "Spark Energy" & "Utility Warehouse". I saw UW speak at a Landlord's conference and after hearing what they had to say would not touch them with a very long bargepole.. (I'm a small-time landlord). Spark my dear wife is currently in dispute with & we have not met such a bad example of customer service for many years...

If so & you switch they'll (agent/ll) be upset: Their problem, unless you want a good reference / to carry on living there after the fixed-term...

    Cheers!

LL/LA's like to think that they can "control" their tenants' -They can't, just ignore any attemts to do so

How will the know that you are moving out in 5 months if you don't tell them?

    tim

:P we haven't renewed our contract (they ask you in October, our contract only begins in July! )and as it's a student let this is the time of year it gets busy flogging the flats at students. We've had a few viewings already, so they know we're not renewing.

Just because you haven't renewed, doesn't mean you are leaving, or even have to leave. If you haven't given written notice that you will be moving out at the end of your current fixed term, they are mad to be having viewings, as you can stay as long as you like on a Statutory Periodic Tenancy once the fixed term ends, and if they have signed up someone else to move in, more fool the agents!!!!

I guess you want to leave, so this won't happen, but many is the landlord who have mistakenly assumed that the end of the fixed term and no renewal means their tenant will be moving out, and signed up a new tenant, only to find themselves in the smelly stuff!
