Hi all, wont bore you with a long story, but i have a debt with natwest/rbs. been paying it off for 8 years now, mostly on a debt management plan. i have now paid over half off. I recently got in an accident at work and have been unable to work, its been 6 months now, and im now on half pay, its looking like i will lose my job. i contacted natwest head office, explained my situation, and asked if i could make reduced payments due to my situation and if at all possible if it could be written off. they wrote back and asked me for a dr's letter explaining my condition, i sent them it. now this month when stepchange the debt management charity i use sent the reduced payment as they have been doing for the past 8 years, it was returned to them by natwest stating the account number is non existent. I havent had anything in writing as yet, but could this be because the debt has gone completely and the account closed?

Quite possibly, but it is strange that you werent notified in writing. Just sometimes, you get a decent soul who cares about a customer and does something to help.
Why dont you write a speculative letter to RBS asking for an 'account update' or 'statement'...something like that and see what comes back. You really do need some sort of definitive explanation for your records if nothing else.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

or it may of been sold...Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

i doubt it will have been sold. it has been to 5 different collection agencys in the past 8 years but always been paid to the same id number if that makes sense0

We don't ask for write-offs often enough.0 -
to be honest i never thought i would be in a position where id have to ask, but im in desperate times at the moment and its the only thing i could do. i have paid off more than i borrowed in the past 8 years, if you look at it that way only interest is left. i dont know if the fact that i wrote to the managing director helped but the letter i received seemed heartfelt and really like they wanted to help me out. they said that in my favour i have always paid at least something, and in some cases more than they would expect from someone in my line of work and wage. and that my case would be looked over thoroughly before a decision was made. i recently had over £3500 of the loan reduced due to mis sold ppi, which was also dealt with very quickly. if it is written off they have taken a £6500 anvil off my shoulders with no way to pay it back0

all thats coming up it statute of limitations, or statute barred and by looking at it, they can still persue payments as i am acknowledging the debt everytime i make a payment. I think its for old debt that someone has not paid in 6 years. correct me if im wrong...0
