An interesting (& depressing) aspect this forum demonstrates is how absolutely ecstatic the moron class warriors are at the poor performance of the UK economy. They have this in common with nulabor who also can't contain their glee at every rotten set of figures.

Whilst my initial feeling is always one of sadness when I see some bad data, my next thought is well at least that is anothe nail in the coffin of the coalition. I hate that badass Gove - the man needs to be gone. And there is more to goverment policy than economic policy...voters don't just vote on economic issues!

But also, the Tories and their supporters were so arrogant and conceited about their abilty to pay down the debt and so hypercritical of Labour that is it just hard not to feel glee :D So it's more, every cloud has a silver lining, and all that...

If you think labour getting in for a term is a good thing for the party, think again.

I predict they will get in again 2015 and be out within 3 years, vote of no confidence when the thick northern electorate realises that they have been conned.

And we couldn't have that, could we?

Party before country every time, eh?:)

Exactly right. No party in its right mind would publish detailed policies at this stage. Its too early...any decent policy would be nicked by the present lot. Labours economic policy will also develop as a reaction to circumstances leading up to 2015 eg state of the euro etc....but of course we all know the thread starter didn't want a sensible discussion....it was just a thread starter for a !!!!! fest by our reactionary right wing bretheren;)

    Indeed.

I believe that was the tactic adopted by Cameron and Co in 2009/10 as the emerging troubles shredded their earlier policies.

I remember them being villified by the Govt and members of this Forum for having no ideas and being complete "opportunist pr*cks". Funny how now the situation is reversed Milliband is being lauded as some sort of Statesman for his silence.

Political tribalism has its fun moments, but is mostly like the BBC - dull rehashed repeats with a different spin depending on channel! :)

As a member of "the Right", I get just as fed up with this sort of too-and-fro over the same arguments...it is all just for show and pantomime-esque. However, the serious point is that those who like to play the Westminster Game should occasionally put up, shut up, and work together in the common interest a bit more where the opportunity presents itself to do the right thing, rather than try and score points that will be long forgotten when the General Election finally rolls round in 2015.

Unfortunately they wouldn't. The near sighted and undemocratic Fixed Term Parliaments bill made it a 5-year term. We would be stuck with them until 2020!

Labour had to spend money because the Tories left the country's infastructure in such a mess that they had no choice....crumbling infastructure is no way to get an economy to grow. Lack of infastructure will drag down GDP growth.

    But you know that....

Right but that wasn't where Labour spent money. They spent it on a massive scheme of redistribution of income via the tax credits system and on large pay increases for public sector employees.

There was plenty of 'Told you so' and of course the current mess in Government finances shows the folly of the massively redistributive policies of the Labour Government. Even Labour admitted that they'd spent all the money when they left power. I don't think there was any glee at the plight of the UK except perhaps from the usual people that think that they can get a cheap house but that's not Tories so much as idiots.

So the current mess in US finances is due to the folly of whom?

Well, I'm hoping that now The Right have realised that the problems and their solutions are not as easy as they thought that we all might be able to engage in grown up conversation about the problems the UK face.

But I'm not holding my breath.

The coalition have introduced fixed terms of five years. It is highly unlikely that a no confidence vote will ever be won again as it requires a vote of more than 75%.

We are stuck with the coalition. Ditto for 2015 and beyond.

By the way London votes Labour.

Ah, would that be North London by any chance??

    Laura,

In the spirit of reciprocity, I hope therefore that "the Left" will immediately stop its scandalous spinning of "cuts" when public spending is actually still increasing, and that the Labour leadership actually engages in proper debate rather than opposing/voting down every single measure introduced, without any sort of debate, just so that they can say "Govt defeated" in the press.

As you say, not holding my breath.

However, as an eternal optimist, I will keep living in hope that they all have an epiphany and start working for the Country rather than their own greasy career! :rotfl:
