Rejecting a second hand car

Need help. Bought a car from arnold clarke 3 weeks ago. Slight tapping when I accelerated and I just assumed this was the injectors.

The noise got louder so I returned the car. The car was taken to renault as it was still under warranty.

Have now been told that petrol has been added when its a diesel car.
I have proof that I only re fuelled with diesel and I believe that the problem is pre existing.

I have rejected the car on this basis but they tell me I cannot do this. My argument is that since the car has been driven with this problem that is will cause long term damage to the fuel pumping system.

I have been lied to, fobbed off, had a large amount of money stolen from the car and have lost faith in AC.

I have been in touch with their head office and my finance company.

Am I within my rights? Any advice would be gratefully received.
