Many thanks:).

I agree with gypsy...AOL total nightmare...and it's a nightmare that will sting you for 12 months...you won't be able to use Outlook..Outlook Express and it tries to take total control of your pc!! Apart from that..AOL are quite good

If someone is using a modem/router, there's never any need to use/install AOL software on your machine. My Netgear wireless is an always-on connection, and i never have to use any of the AOL screens etc.

Isn't that a good thing? I've not used that trash for more than 6 years! Have they (MS) introduced yEnc encoding for it yet?

    Hi Lara,

I am with AOL and yes the software does like to try and take over your machine but I just minimise the AOL window and use Mozilla Firefox to do my web browsing (Top Program).

I have also just ordered the Netgear DG834G wireless modem router from Amazon.co.uk which included a FREE USB adapter and FREE P+P for just £69.99. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000TZ8Z8/qid=1113511261/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/202-9390975-8807046

I have been looking for some time but could not find a better deal on the NET. The advantage with this router apart from the fact it has excellent reviews is that AOL provides support on this modem if you have any trouble with it.

    Hope this is usefull

Don't forget to mention it is FREE support, not some scam premium number!

Well just thought that I would add that yes I am on aol silver broadband.

Have been for about a year and it is fine. Yes it does take over a bit.

I can use Outlook express fine for receiving emails etc.

I have just bought and installed the Netgear DG834G wireless router and after a few troublesome moments it is now working fine on both machines.

AOL do say that you have to be on AOL Gold to use the wireless option but I have got it all going on AOL Silver.

If you want to have all the machines working on aol at the same time you would need aol gold but as in my case I am happy just to have one connected to aol at a time.

AS has been said you can get internet access without signing into the aol window via the netgear router and the connection speed is much much faster.

    I am happy
Its better to be late in this life than early in the next one.

    Slow down speed kills.

    AOL Silver - £17.99

    Nildram Surf500 - £22.99

Even BT Broadband is a better option than AOL. Take a look at http://www.adslguide.org.uk and do a compare service providers.

You will know where the extra £5 goes with Nildram. Top ISP, top support, never had one problem with them in 3yrs.
