My landlady won't allow me to turn the heating up, what can I do

I pay 85 pound a week for the room which I would consider very reasonable for the area considering its ment to include these so called utilities0

A hair drier makes a decent fan heater. Blow it over an iron and you'll probably get a KW or 2 of heating. I did exactly that when I lived in a caravan with no heating in the bedroom. Not ideal, but better than no heating. Hair driers are higher powered these days - my daughters really blasts out lots of very hot air, must be at least 1kW I expect.
Not sure how long a hair drier would last used like that, but if it breaks and you're under guarantee, don't tell them how you've been using it!0 -
she opens your letters, goes through your room and takes your property? Jesus you have got some patience.Slimming World at target0

She didnt throw out my heater she made me get rid of it ( I borrowed it frm a friend so i gave it back to her) But true, if I had bought it what would she have expected me to do with it! All jokes aside I have tried to heat my room with hair driers in the past. Result is 2 broken hair driers and long lasting wet hair.0

The legal....or more a guideline is that your bedroom should be heated to 18 and the living areas in the property heated to 21 degrees....but not necessarily for 24 hours of the day...only when required.
I don't know where you got that guideline?
I own my home and do not heat bedrooms to 18 and living areas to 21 degrees."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Your land lady sounds like an absolute nutcase. Do you ever hear her creeping around late at night lol. I'd get out as soon as you can, you cant seriously think of living like this long term! And dont forget to invoice her for the hair dryer aswell0

Time to start lookign for a new place then, and invest in a electric blanket which I will invoice her for when I leave ha ha
Keep the box the electric blanket comes in. Enjoy the blanket at full power for a few weeks whilst you find somewhere else then on the day you move out have the last laugh by leaving the empty blanket box on the bed!
