I run the website for a local chapter of The Red Hat society. Currently was are using Simple Site, but this has always meant using https://www.simplesite.com/Xxx.
I can upgrade through Simple Site to our own www. address at a cost (200 pics, 20 pages and 1200 video seconds) for £105, currently paying £85 for all the above minus our own www.
The committee are concerned that the current set up doesn't get us high enough up the search engines for people looking for our organisation in this area where there is another chapter which does have its own url.
Does anyone else have any suggestions? I can manage basic html, file transfers etc, but not selfl registration.
Thanks

Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

Is that £85/£105 per year? If so then you are paying way over the top.
Registration is simple with most hosts - you find a suitable registrar/host, check the domain you want is available, if it is add it to your basket, select your hosting package and add that to your basket and then check out. They will register the domain and set up the hosting. Then all you need to do is upload your website to their server.
Of course the above assumes that you will be able to get the source files from simplesite and that you are allowed to use them (i.e. it's not a copyrighted template you're using).0 -
Have a look at weebly.com

I use and would highly recommend using the self hosted version of WordPress - http://wordpress.org/. It's powerful, easy to use and has loads of plugins to extend it's functionality. You would have to go through the pain of recreating your content but it would probably be worth it in the long run.
Get a domain, choose one with your target keywords in it, and then get some hosting. I use http://mapletreeinternet.co.uk/ who offer a cheap package for £35 a year, with a one click installation of WordPress. My advice is to buy your domain and hosting from separate companies so you're not tied into one and can then switch hosting packages easily if you need to.
To get your domain higher in the search engines you need to read up on Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) but WordPress is again very good in this respect. The WordPress plugin http://yoast.com/wordpress/seo/ is great and the supporting site has some good tips on SEO.0
