Rejecting a second hand car

Need help. Bought a car from arnold clarke 3 weeks ago. Slight tapping when I accelerated and I just assumed this was the injectors.
The noise got louder so I returned the car. The car was taken to renault as it was still under warranty.
Have now been told that petrol has been added when its a diesel car.
I have proof that I only re fuelled with diesel and I believe that the problem is pre existing.
I have rejected the car on this basis but they tell me I cannot do this. My argument is that since the car has been driven with this problem that is will cause long term damage to the fuel pumping system.
I have been lied to, fobbed off, had a large amount of ,only stolen from the car and have lost faith in AC.
I have been in touch with their head office and my finance company.
Am I within my rights? Any advice would be gratefully received.

I'll be interested to hear how you can prove that you did not put petrol in it.
Are you telling us that a large amount of money was left in the car?
I ask for two reasons:- I assume that ",only" is actually "money".
If not, what are you trying to say? - Did you really leave a large amount of money in an unattended car?

Yes stupidly I did leave a large amount of money in the car.
The only proof I have is receipts for diesel and yes this is not proof that I did not put petrol in the vehicle.0 -

They've told me they've drained the tank and it has tested for petrol.0

Because the experts say so. They can test for these things you know.spacey2012 wrote: »I would be more interested in how they can prove anyone put petrol in.0 -
If they've tested for petrol and found petrol, you're stuffed.
How else do you think it got in there?0 -
Well I know I never put it there0
