What help may she get?

  • I am sorry to hear of your friends situation. Its no wonder she is feeling very worried.

If i was in your friends situation these are the steps i would initally take:-

Contact all creditors/mortgage company to explain the situation to them. This is most important esp the mortgage company.

Get down to your local council office/JCP to ask about signing on and any possible benefits she would be entitled too. You could ask her to use this site as well as indicator of what she may be entitled too.

Is there anyone who may be able to loan her some money temporarily? (i mean fami/friends) rather than a company.

Wish your friend the best of luck, and hope that she does indeed at least receive her pay this month .

Just looked at turn to us and it says her JSA would be £136 a week?? Surely that can't be right!

I think JSA is around £63 a week (ish) if over 25. Its a little less if under.

  • JSA is £71 a week if over 25.

I really hope your friend gets something sorted, its not a nice thing to go through. My dad went through the redundancy scares a few times with Vauxhalls, and that was always a worrying time for us all.

Might the turn to us calculation have included her mortgage help too then?

It did say the entitlement after the waiting period would be £136 a week.

Since she also gets DLA HRM, might she be better claiming ESA rather than JSA?

    You are probably right.

Probably not ESA would be £71 p/w until she is assessed and then the WRAG or SG component would be added if she qualified.

However JSA would be £71 plus the disability premium (assuming she/partner has no other income).

Thanks for this. Any idea what the disability premium of JSA would be?

We can't begin to tell you what she would get until you lay out what her circumstances are.

To claim ESA she would need doctors sick notes.

I've never looked at turn2us, but if they just throw out a figure of £136 without a breakdown of how they arrived at that figure......that's not very clever really.

Presumably she has now made a claim for JSA?

She hasn't claimed yet as she still has had no information from her employer. Staff were sent home from work on Thursday and told to await a letter explaining what would happen next. This hasn't arrived although many of her colleagues have had a letter saying they are redundant.
