what are on the latest recommendations on this front for 3 year old as we get money from grandparents etc.

It's updated monthly so should be fairly accurate, if you want the most up-to-date info follow the link in the article for a comparison site.
Also don't forget to check every so often you're still getting a good rate and if necessary change accounts.
Nationwide always seem to have a fairly good rate and although not at the top of the tables they do seem fairly consistent from what I've heard.
