Are you on the cheapest tariff/company for the electric?

Is there anything at all valuable such as jewellery you could sell just to get you through this bad patch- hopefully no more than 1-2 months of winter left so would do as a stop gap and give you breathing room to plan for next year.

Sorry if this one seems insensitive, but is your hubby kitted out with thick clothes, blankets and hot water bottles? Do you have decent lined curtains at the windows?

I only ask because there was someone in a similar position on the local news the other night. Sitting there in a t-shirt and hoody, flimsy blind at the window etc. I did think "hang on a minute...".

Thanks KxMx - hubby wears several layers and even sleeps in jogging bottoms and a top lol Windows are not great to be honest but the landlord isn't in a position to pay for them to be replaced - even the triple glazing leaks lol We have blinds up and normal curtains in the living room ( 2 sets of patio doors at either end of room and an 8 foot window! ) but bedrooms have lined curtains on the windows.

I am a stickler for keeping all the doors closed to every room and have got curtains up on the front door as well etc xxx WE also had the loft insulated by a free scheme company in the summer too which has helped a little at keeping the heat we generate in the house xx
