Italian Mortgages

Hi

I've been offered a little apartment in Italy and once i've paid the deposit it will come it in at around £20k. I know Barcalys do Italian mortgages but i noticed it says on their website they only borrow a minimum of £50k.......is this correct? Are there any other banks based in the UK who offer Italian mortgages?

Thanks

Don't know of any other UK banks that offer them but the £50K min may well be fairly standard - see

Conti are a very long established broker for overseas mortgages and they're suggesting that as their minimum figure. Not a recommendation, in fact I think they're quite expensive, but they are often quoted in the national press a bit like Charcoal for UK ones.

From personal experience overseas mortgages tend to be much heavier fees-wise than UK ones, so if you *only* need £20K have you considered other alternatives like a remortgage on your UK property or an unsecured loan to raise the balance needed?
