  • TBH I'd wait till I was offered the job to start negotiating hours. But it's reasonable to ask about company culture and see what they say...

    Good luck!

    Agree with this.

What have you got to offer me with regards of career advancement and stability?
Where do you see me in five years time ?
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

I haven't heard back as of yet but all the signs looked like they are going to offer me the role... Next question is do I actually want the job which is something I can't answer...
    Man plans and God laughs...
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

Good luck, but don't count your chickens.
  • Again, realise its late for you, but a lot will depend on what level of seniority you are going in to. If I was recruiting a "senior" person, as the OP said they were, then I would find it a little odd that the prospective Head of Finance needs to ask what their day will be like.

The best sort of questions to be asking, particularly as you go up the career ladder, is ones where it gives you an opportunity to further highlight your skills/ experience/ suitability. So asking what they feel the greatest challenges will be in the first few weeks/ months and then respond to what they say by giving examples of how you've overcome similar issues before.

Salary or hours I certainly would discuss. Agents are good on the salary front so leave that to them. Hours gives a very poor impression, rightly or wrongly the more senior you get often the more hours you need to put in (unless you have non-executive role) and by suggesting as the potential FD you will down tools at 5pm on the dot every day aint getting you anywhere

Well, I was offered and accepted the role this morning :)

I asked about work life balance and I explained why I was asked - ie I don't want to be working very long hours as standard. As my current role is in a similar field but quite different I did ask what the day to day role was like and what the interactions were lik with the team were like.
