questions-taking food to Austria,and hand luggage,pencil crayons?

edit;I have sussed the original questions, please see my last post and advise on hand luggage, thankyou !

I am going to visit family in Austria on Saturday,(beside the point, but really starting to worry about leaving kids and partner alone for 10 days!)I am intending to take them a large Bakewell pudding,as Bakewell is close to where we live, and I couldn't think what gifts to take, they seem to like food so thats one pressie sorted! It is quite an eggy ,greasy almond pudding.I suddenly thought maybe not aloud to take it,terrorists, bird flu and all.It will be well packaged in my suitcase,I can't bear to have it messed about with or taken from me though, absolutely love it,and it's really expensive! So if anyone can advise is it o.k to take food such as this to Austria?
My other question is,is about parking at Robin hood Doncater/Sheffield airport,As we are all going to Jersey Soon after, visiting more family!(my god I've got a hectic month ahead!) need to book parking before I go to Austria for maximum discount.I've seen a code somewhere around this site for voucher code for BCP car parking, but note sure if that is in the same area as the parking on the thompsonfly website??Any body know the best cjheapest way of booking the parking?

oh one more thing! my nephew has lent me his suitcase,he has given me some little locks to go on the zip,is it ok to lock it all up before it gets checked in,or does it have to be accessible for customs?

There is no reason why you should not take your cake to Austria. Mind you, putting it into your suit case, doesn’t seem to be a good idea: it’s likely to get smashed into a disgusting looking mess. I don’t think the luggage handlers would take much notice of a label “Fragile - Handle with care”.

You better take it in your hand luggage. Presuming it’s quite a solid cake, a ‘tart’ and not a ‘pudding’, so it wouldn’t fall under ‘semi-liquids’ like a cream cakes and puddings would.

On the other hand, they have some very nice cakes in Austria. I’m sure your sweet tooth could get satisfied by local produce.

You can lock the case, although those flimsy locks don't make any sense, as it doesn't gets opened, just x-rayed after check-in. There is no custom within the EU (UK as well as Austria are members).

Thanks,It's hard to describe Bakewell pudding,I guess it could be described as semi liquid, its kind of very rich greasy pastry,a layer of jam, then a thick layer of eggy, sugary almondy fat!more robust than jelly but not as tough,or crumby as cake! sounds yuck but it's delicious. It will be in a box like a pizza box,but I will pad it out well,it should just about survive the journey,I just wanted to take some local produce. So if it was classed as semi liquid would it be a problem in my main suitcase?I also have a jar of lemon curd and ginger preserve, are they aloud?!

Basically, if it's not 'completely' solid, it'll have to go in your checked-in baggage.

Also, as somebody who works at the airport, I feel you should be made aware that bags really are not treated particularly well (no, I'm not a baggage handler!). Bear in mind, you case might be dropped, stood on, placed upside down or at a funny angle in the hold, etc. There is potential for rather a lot of mess with your Bakewell pudding in there!

I think your cake is more trouble than it’s worth (in the hold it will disintegrate and in the hand luggage it might be classified as ‘semi-liquid’ and will be confiscated). It might be better to leave it at home.

Austria has lovely cakes in all varieties (Linzer Torte, Sacher Torte, Gugelhupf etc. etc.)

and you can eat your way through all those (mind you, you’ll put on a few pounds). Alternatively, get the ingredients in a super market and make your own Bakewell pudding, while you are over there.

Austria is the cake capitol of the world and taking cakes to Austria is like the proverbial ‘Coals to Newcastle’.

Thanks.I just wanted to take some local food,as I remember the cakes and sweets they used to bring us as children, hazelnut wafer things and rum cocoas.
Bakewell pudding is the only local wonder I can think of,it is a top secret recipe, chefs have been trying to figure it out for years, but the only one thast tastes right is the one from the Bakewell pudding shop in Bakewell,so its not just something I can replicate from a super market. And the whole point was to bring some local food from home, thats unavailable from them there.
Why will it discintigrate?will it? even if well packaged?

well I've just packed, and my allowance is 15kg,just taken loads of stuff out,and it's spot on 15kg, I haven't even got the pudding yet,but it seems it will be too heavy anyway.I think I should just consider myself packed now,I've been faffing about at it all day!
...as for hand luggage am I safe to take pencil crayons, and unique, very slightly pointy silver jewelry,or is there a danger that I might go stir crazy and go around poking people in the eye??!
By the way this is a serious question!
