TomTom One XL or 910 & WHY ?

Hi,

I'm interested in comparing the features of these two tomtom products but don't really understand the technical lingo. If someone can summarise the main features of the two or even recommend one I'd be grateful.

XL - I like the large widescreen 4.3"

910 - I like the idea of having 20gb hd though i would prefer flash memory (more economical on battery)

I'm sure you can use the 910 for handsfree calling using your mobile (bluetooth) and not quite sure whether this is possible on the new XL.

So apart from the screen sizes and memory differences, what other significant differences exist between the two models? The price for both is about same although rrp for 910 is higher.

I used to have a TOMTOM 910 when first came out but sold it and got a TOMTOM ONE.(not the latest XL release)

The 910 has maps for canada and america as standard and the HD so you can put songs on it and pictures. I found this useless as i use the car stereo and need to use the maps and not look at pictures.

It also reads out names and numbers of roads whereas the other versions say turn next right etc etc. Which doesnt make much of a difference.

The TOMTOM one is slimmer and the new XL does have bluettooth. I find everything that i used on the 910 on the one, the rest i found to be pointless so sold the more expensive 910 and got the one.

I alos didnt like the mounting bracket of the 910 as its abit awkward to set.

Personally i would get the XL.

The extra features in the 910 seem quite useless..

MP3 playback ... use the Car stereo for better sound
Picture viewer... Get them printed that way thier bigger than 4 inches
Bluetooth ... Get a cheap headset and that way you dont have to drag the TOMTOM out for a 10 minute journey to the shops.

Remote control... How far do you sit from your windscreen????
Text to speech.... Isnt "Turn left and you have reached your destination" enough??

IPOD control.... Buy an adapter and get it through your car stereo

Yep, having had one i found the extras to be useless, as per my previous post.

I think I'm going to go for TT One XL if I can get a good price considering its not been launched yet.

One thing I'm still not sure is will I be able to use it for handfree calling? I know it has bluetooth built-in but not sure whether it will allow this feature for my Nokia N80.

Nice one, I'll see if I can pick one up for around £200 (though there doesn't seem to be any difference between basic One & One XL apart from the obvious large screen on XL)


There might be some bargains available on the basic One model once the new XL comes out later this month, might be worth hanging on. Thanks all, Ash

Thanks, But can someone confirm for sure whether its possible to use XL for handsfree calling as this column is not ticked in the above link.
