Funding for studying abroad

I am currently in full time work but I was seriously considering pursuing my dream career in a medical field.
I have thought long and hard about this and I really would like to study in Canada as a mature student. If all went to plan I would work towards becoming a permanent citizen once I am fully qualified.

I have exhausted every single avenue possible on the Canadian side and still I cannot find any funding which I may be eligible for.

I know its a long shot but would a UK student loan pay out for me to study abroad? If not, has anyone else considered studying in another country without having the cash to pay for it upfront?

Thanks guys and gals.
I work, I pay debts, I work some more and then pay more debts...give me a break! :money:

Unfortunately UK student finance won't pay out for courses outside the UK.
  • An option would be to study in the UK and then apply to do a study year abroad. Bear in mind that this would be dependant on your grades and that it isn't guaranteed that you would be accepted into your first choice institution ie a Canadian one.

It would maybe be easier for you to get some funding for a postgraduate degree there afterwards.

Not sure about Canada but I got funding for post-grad study in Australia as a UK citizen via a bursary listed on https://www.jason.edu.au

Obviously scholarships are very competitive but you might get lucky!

I think if you do this, and study abroad for an entire year, that year of course fees is waived, so that might be a good option.

The course fees to the foreign university would be waived but fees would still be paid to the UK university as far as I'm aware.

In the case of my eldest, for their year abroad no fees paid to overseas uni and a fraction of the normal fees paid to their home Uni (believe it was a 1/4)
