First ever Credit Card

  • Noooo!! You'll probably be only able to get a sub-prime card.

The easiest sub-prime to get is probably a Capital One Secured Card. If, after the credit check, they find that you are eligible for the Classic Card they will give you the chance to choose Classic instead of the Secured Card.

The secured Card requires a security deposit which is refunded upon account closure, subject to no arrears. There is no deposit for a Classic Card

Try using the soft search on MSE Cards/Loans.
Fact is nobody really knows whether anyone will be accepted or rejected. Just bear in mind searches are on file for 6 months.
Income and age as well as previous credit history are important and personally I am not convinced of arguments of just sticking to sub prime applications.

Credit searches are on file with Equifax and Experian for one year and Callcredit for two years. However after six months searches have less impact on credit score.

I don't understand why people do soft searches unless its with the actual company you're applying for and believe the only one decent is nationwide.

IMHO all soft searches should stop messing about with silly searches on the likes of call credit as 95% of CC's will search Experian.
