OK I understand, but I was thinking more along the lines that if 3/4 of the party have to cancel, then this would cause a significant increase in costs for the one remaining member, would this be considered?

Anyway, it looks like it's now become more of an academic exercise as I've found a provider (Columbus Direct) that will cover 18-22 year olds in full time education, as part of a family policy. It's slightly dearer than the two Virgin policies but is still a reasonable price with a lower excess than Virgin and a cancellation payout limit that will cover the total cost of the holiday on a single policy.

I just wanted to say I came onto the forum to find exactly the information you have been speaking about. I have a 19 year old son who will be coming on holiday with us later this year and I was trying to work out how to fit him into our travel insurance. I will investigate the Columbus insurance thanks to your homework.
