Sky+ record 2 channel's and watch another

I have just had a question from my Step Dad, who was told he could record two channel's whilst watching another at the same time using Sky+? (New customer and he is comparing against VM Tivo box).
I'm off the opinion you can record one and watch another, or record two and watch one you are recording. But you can't record from two and watch another channel at the same time. You could record two and watch a previously record one however.
He sent me a copy of the online chat.
You: Can I record 2 programs whilst watching one that is on, i.e. record from BBC1 & BBC2 whilst watching one on ITV?
XXX: Let me check that.
XXX: I have checked yes you can do that.
I think this is incorrect, I can't do it on my Sky+ box, are Sky now doing boxes that can?

Not possible on a Sky+ box, the most you can do is record two channels and watch an existing recording. It only has two inputs/tuners.0

Sky decoders have only two inputs. Virgin's have three.
The online chat is wrong.0 -
you can record two channels but watch a recorded program, the dish only has 2 feeds so cant watch another one whilst still recording. You can watch demand though.
sorry had connection problems did post the above just after you posted0 -
You used to be able to record 2 programmes at once and watch another programme on Terestrial TV, but not since the changeover for the reasons above.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Cheers for confirming, that was my understanding, just thought when online chat told him different they might have a new box or some way of doing it.0

Well, if the TV has a Freeview tuner (or you have a Freeview decoder box) it's still perfectly possible to watch via the aerial while Sky records two separate shows via the dish. However, a Sky+ alone can't provide three channels from only two feeds. You used to be able to record 2 programmes at once and watch another programme on Terestrial TV,0 -

Shirley if your TV has a digital tuner you can watch a live terrestrial channel whilst the Sky box does its stuff.
