Depends on what the check is being done for.

Now, my hubby had his checked for 10 years. Normal is 5 years. To what extent a company checks (whether they just contact old employers or check the government sites) is dependent on the job and what it entails.

quick question re the future mortgage thing.

if say she earns 30k and i earn 80k and she is the applicant can we borrow based on the total of the two salaries and just be in her name?

or can she only borrow a multiple of income based on her income?

Property is not my forte I'm afraid but I'd imagine that if the debt will be soley hers (in her name) then it's just her income taken into account since if something happened and you were no longer together, they'd want to know she could afford the repayments herself.

Might be totally wrong but logic says that's the way they'd do it.

Honestly though, why are you so intent on getting your own property? You should be staying as far away from getting any more debt, since you know where it can land you, as possible.

    Just a very quick thought.

I'll admit I have only scan read so I apologise in advance for any mistakes I've made in my interpretation.

One of the problems you are facing is the Turkish military service, correct?

Do you have full dual nationality?

If that is the case you can (to the best of my knowledge) renounce your Turkish nationality and declare yourself British entirely. It is a step I have considered a few times but have never really had a reason to follow up on it as I've not been there since a year or so after my birth (I'm a full dual national but with a nasty country just south of Canada).

If this is possible wouldn't it remove a large chunk of your headache?

renouncing turkish dual is something i have already investigated. it is illegal after the age of 35 there so i am stuffed on that front. of course nobody told me this until after i had turned 40!!

already spoke to lawyers there re this and it is not an option in my case because my dad registered me as full turk when i was born - with NO record of dual. i knew nothing of this until i moved there just b4 turning 40. i can wave my uk passport until i am blue in the face but their records say no and i cannot change them to dual and then renounce because this was done AT BIRTH. in other words the turkish govt has NEVER had a record of dual since birth so i cannot change in order to renounce.

    pretty bad huh?
