Credit Card & Bank Charges

Hi All,
I'm looking at reclaiming my credit card charges. Now I have had a number in the past. Listed Below
HSBC
Barclays
Egg
Royal Bank Of Scotland
Now I'm pretty certain that all with have incurred excessive charges in the past. Reading the guide I need to send a Sars letter. Now I understand that this has a cost of £10. Do all the above charge that amount? I also no longer have a cheque book so would a postal order be OK?
And who would be the most likely to pay out without the hassle of contacting FOS
I also have been looking into the Bank Charges issue. Now there is no doubting when HSBC where hitting me with bank charges I was certainly put me under financial difficulties. I am now in a more fortunate position in that regard. But I'm still intrigued if I could reclaim some of these charges. If I seem to remember at one point HSBC were hitting me for £120 in charges. Does anyone think I may have a case
Many Thanks
Jason

As per the MSE article, the maximum amount poermitted by law is £10 for a SAR. Companies are not obligated to charge this amount, but may not charge any more (even if it has to include VAT). As the article suggests, for the sake of £10 or less, sending £10 now should prevent delay whilst the cost is informed to you and you send them the appropraite fee (where applicable)
A Postal order should be fine, but remember you will be charged for a Postal Order. Why have you not got a cheque book?
I would suggest none are likely to pay out unless the fees are in excess of £12 (or £16 in the case of egg) ... but you might strike lucky.
Are you prepared to go to court? As Egg have proved to the satisfaction of the FOS that their charges of £16 are appropriate, I doubt you will convince a court otherwise ... unless you know something the best legal brains in the land don't.
Bank charges - you only have half a chance of getting a refund if you are currently in financial hardship and being charged ... and even then there is no guarantee as the banks are not obligated to offer any refund at all.0
