Argos and extended warranty advice

Just trying to get my head around this before I go into store at the weekend.

October 2012. DD Buys a pair of Skull Candy Headphones @£9.99. She takes out the additional 3yr cover at £1.99.

February 2013. DD tells me the headphones are faulty, only one ear piece is working.

Now, the headphones are only just over 3 months old. What will happen in store? Will they be replaced and the 3yr cover continue to run or will Argos try and replace under the 3yr cover and invalidate that?

As far as I'm aware 3 month old faulty headphones should be replaced as a matter of course under SOGA and not affect the separate 3yr cover.

Thoughts?

It may depend on HOW you have the problem resolved, and the T&Cs of the warranty. In terms of the warranty - the T&Cs should cover it all.

This suggests that the plan ends when the item is replaced.

The headphones should be covered under the manufactures warranty, insist on that,if you use the 3 year cover, which is in fact is a once only replace cover then you will loose it.Had this happen to me with a strimmer and was replaced under the manufacture 1 year warranty no problem.

Thats what concerns me, why should she have the problem dealt with under the extended warranty, which then ends and will cost another £1.99 to take out again when the issue has occurred so soon that I imagine Argos would have just replaced them under SOGA if she hadn't got the warranty.

Unfortunately the warranty and the receipt for the original headphones are on the same receipt so I can't just get it sorted without involving the warranty.

Fair enough in this case its £1.99 and if it comes to it I'll give her that myself, but I thought it an interesting question, should purchased warranty override SOGA?

Thank you! You posted as I was replying but thats essentially my issue, why should I pay again for Warranty when the problem is covered under manufacturer.

TBH with the fact these have only lasted for 3 months I can see us using the warranty further down the line anyway :o

    Thanks :D
Hopefully then it will be a straight replacement without involving the warranty but I'll update with how I get on at the weekend.

    Update as promised :)

Nipped in at lunch time and explained the problem, CS lady said not a problem, ordered a new set of headphones down from the warehouse and did a straight swap.

    Brilliant :)
