    1) View the car - tell them I don't like it, and ask for a refund?
    2) Call them and ask for a refund now (is there a cooling off period for such things)?
    3) Wave the £300 goodbye?

Option 2 is definitely the right choice - you would be out of line to go with option 1, them with option 3.
And that my son, is how to waft a towel!

I don't know what it was about the experience that led me to start thinking so illogically as to part with £300 of my cash just to view a car, but I did it, and I regret it.

Anyway, on Sunday, I called them again - just to clarify that the deposit is refundable. Again I was told yes, but I would probably love the car as soon as I have seen it.

Sorry, me again - last one I promise!

You didn't make a bad choice - you paid a sensible deposit to have a car brought to you for a viewing (not quite as simple as 'just to view'), and based on you buying the car, if described accurately etc. If it is described correctly, is it not possible that they are right, and you will probably love it??
