Jobsworth administrators

I've just posted a polite and helpful thread, offering advice to your forum users only to be met with hostile administrators accusing me of breaking rules (that aren't in any of the rules posts I've read) and refusing to point out how and which rules and threatening to ban me without any explanation.
I was more than happy to join discussions, take time to help others in fields in which I have knowledge and expertise, and become a productive member of these forums, but with petty jobsworth administrators like those I refer to, I would rather look elsewhere.
Really pathetic. The "power" of being an admin obviously goes to the heads of some people and unfortunately drive decent posters like myself away.

Your post as far as I could see promoted your site in the youtube video
If you dont like the rules feel free to start your own forum we all have to abide by the rules on here0 -
You were self-promoting which against the site rules and your thread deserved to be pulled, anything that happened after that as far as threats to ban you must have stemmed from any discussion that you have since had with the forum team and not to do with the thread itself.0

I just asked for an explanation, but nobody offered one. I read the rules a number of times and saw no rule that applied to me.
I created the youtube videos with a genuine intention of helping others (certainly not for profit!) and started the thread to help people too. If someone had just explained to me how I'd broke the rules, I'd have accepted that and not posted again,
The hostile and smug responses I received make it seem as if I'd been linking to warez sites, pyramid schemes or !!!!!!.0 -
They dont give explanation due to size of the forum/users
Your post was against the rules time to accept it and move on0 -

That's fair enough and I accept it, but I think that rule should be made more apparent.
I've read the rules posts and searched for it and I still cannot find where I've breached any rule.
I'd appreciate it if someone can direct me to those rules so that I know what I can post in future.0 -

From our Forum Rules (linked at the top of every single page and also from the T&Cs you agreed to when you signed up):
Why was my post about my company/site/blog/offer deleted?
MoneySavingExpert.com is a free site - you cannot pay to buy advertising space - one of the reasons why so many people use it! Equally, you're not allowed to advertise any goods, services and/or companies anywhere on the forum, or through private messages, no matter how honourable your intentions.
'Advertising' includes touting for business; asking people to contact you; posting e-mail addresses which indicate a web address; linking to sites or blogs you or friends are involved with (whether you’re selling something or not); or linking to your eBay or other auction sales.
All posts which we consider to be advertising will be removed where reported.
Users are allowed links in profile pages, but please don't mention them in your posts or signature in any way.

Thanks for highlighting the rule. I did read that but felt it wasn't applicable as I was not advertising, goods, services or companies, and the videos were free, but since I was involved in their creation I see how I broke the rule.
However, the unfriendly and ungrateful responses I initially received about that post has made me realise this isn't a forum I want to invest any more time into.0 -

Hi danielwade,
I'm surprised you read the rules and considered you weren't advertising - the clips clearly feature a link to a website, incidentally the same one you use in your MSE profile page.
We consider that a pretty clear form of advertising.
I'm sorry to hear you don't wish to stay on the forum - seems a shame to let one misunderstanding of our rules terminate any involvement in our site for you at all.
