mobile phone insurance

I have recently got a building and contents insurance with morethan (RSA). they have an addon for £22/year called outside your home cover which they say the mobile phone/other items upto £1500 will be covered outside the home for damage and lost.

I am currently paying £8/month for my bank account which includes the mobile phone insurance. I dodnt user much of the other benefits on the account like travel insurance as i have another one with my work.

is it worth/adviced to cancel the insurance with the bank and add it to the contents cover?

Assuming your correct about the excess as policies often have a "Compulsory" or "Policy" excess built in which is on top of any voluntary excess.

Home Insurance provides much wider cover for mobile phones than stand alone policies, it will not however cover unauthorised use eg the thief racking up your phone bill.

If the phones would cost more than £350 to replace new then you would probably be worth covering it with your home insurance.

You need to bear in mind that should you claim, your premium will increase by circa 20% for circa three years. If you make a claim and then make a claim for something else in the next three to five years expect the increase to be considerably more.

The other benefit of your Home Insurance is it will provide cover for personal effects away from home if you are adding this cover on.
  • Thanks, just spoke to them again and its as fellows

    Lost/Theft - £50 excess
    Accidental Damage - £250 excess

it covers up to £7500 worth of cover in total and single item value up to £1500.
