does anyone have any experience of buying a used car from motorpoint?

the car is only 8 months old and is an astra

how can i find out if it is an imported or pre registered car which may not be covered by the three year manufacturers warranty?

i know the obvious answer is to ask them!

cheers

Motorpoint recently got heavily fined for putting Vauxhall badges on Opel cars, but they stopped that practise. The cars will all be UK sourced now. The issue will be whether it is an 07 spec or 06 spec. The 07 spec has had some major revisions that will really hit hard on the 06 values.

Hi I bought an "07" VW Touran last June. I was told it had a two year warranty. Salesman said that all I had to do was contact a VW dealer if anything went wrong.
Being the cautious type, I contacted the local dealer to check things out. I was told that as it was an import, the car was not registered with the VW network, and I had to register it, which took 2 weeks. I was told that if I had not registered it, then any claim under warranty would be invalid. I was not told to do this at Motorpoint. So this may be the same with Vauxhall.

At point of sale, I was told that the car had 2 years warranty, this is not the case, it was registered in March 06, so my warranty is now up, 9 months after I bought my "new" car. I bought my 07 car thinking it was almost new, whereas it was actually over one year old.

Log book etc were delivered 2 weeks after I took delivery. We got OK trade in price. Sales guy didnt seem too interested in a sales pitch.
The car is ok, but I suppose if it looks too good (£2000 cheaper than main dealer) then it is!
If only I'd listened to my dad!
Anyone any ideas what I should do re warranty?
I was told 2 yrs when buying...
    Thanks

I bought an imported Renault Scenic in 2001 from a local (non-Renault) dealer. I didn't need to register it. Only needed one thing done under warranty and it was no problem.
Co-incidently, we have inquired about a new Scenic from Motorpoint and they have been completely clear as to the age and remaining warranty, without even me asking.

If you run a HPI check on the car if their is no engine number listing or no model type this is a big indication it is an import. The warranty on an import usually dates from when it was imported into the country NOT when it was first registered so if it was at in a compound for 18mths before being registered you loose 18 mths warranty. Also bear in mind Imported vehicles may be cheaper when you buy them but the residual value of an import will also be significantly lower so unless you plan to run the car into the ground factor this into the savings you believe you are making on the import.

It will be covered by a European warranty, even if it is an import, however, that may not be the same as the UK one, it varies from one maker to another.

I know for certain that Mazda's are covered by the same 3 year warranty as UK cars.
