Income support and Working Tax Credits

Hi wondering if anyone is the wiser? Can you claim Income support while getting your 4 weeks run on from working tax credits?

I came out of work on the 26th December so claimed IS from the 27th, my working tax credit ended on the 17th of Jan. I have phoned the job centre and they've said I've got a payment being sent out to cover from 19th Jan to 1st Feb. He said he didn't know why I hadn't been back dated and someone is going to phone me to see what's happening.

I'd also like to know if your not entitled to claim both does that also mean I wasn't entitled to claim housing and council tax benefit during those weeks of my working tax follow on even though I wasn't in receipt of any wages?

Argh help:eek:

As far as I know the WTC would count as income and would reduce/wipe out the IS
Housing benefit - you need to notify them of the changes asap. From Dec it appears you went from wage+WTC to WTC only and then onto IS so there will be an adjustment to your award (assuming you were already claiming)
  • Hi yes I've told them about the changes from the start. So can I ask what help your supposed to get on the change over? Obviously I'm down my wages each week and that was used to pay housing and council tax, you must be able to get help with those weeks through the change over? With working tax credits and my wages I got roughly 180 a week but was down over a 100 during change over weeks as not getting wages :/ Working Tax credits received was not enough to cover rent and council and other bills to take in to consideration too.
