To find a UK property built before circa 1880 with cavity walls would be a real challenge. It would be a very rare exception to the then standard.
Do you know of any actual examples?Forgotten but not gone.0 -

For water to be finding itself on the reveal at the top of the inside of a window unless its coming from the rendering outside there must be some sort of cavity otherwise it would be showing through on the interior window walls as well .if you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction0 -

FWIW I would agree the window above is more likely the cause, however always "expect the unexpected" seems reasonable.......;);), what's the american phrase?, balance of probabilities:D:D, I'' have to add that to the sig.
Always the same, we have to guess in the absence of detail;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Thankyou for all your replies.
The windows are standard windows (not sash or bay) - they are approx 6 feet tall by 4 feet wide, pretty standard for lancashire. They were in the house when I moved in just shy of 2 years ago, and I have no idea how long they have been here.
There is no damp or moisture upstairs whatsoever, which is what has thrown me. I've asked someone to come and look at the sills(*sp) upstairs again as cylonebri1 suggested.
I also have no idea if there is cavity walls in the property.
apologies for the later than usual reply, I've been working 14 hour days and literally haven't had time to come on and post.
Thanks again for all your help0 -

Don't be too hard on TBWF, too many people come here and ask for help then disappear without such as a word of thanks for the time others have spent trying to help them.
Luckily you aren't said person, but far too many are, hence the rather harsh reply;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

It was cylonebri1 who advised about the sealing of the sills - not you. If you cannot keep it on topic, then please go harrass someone else, as I was and still am looking for constructive advice, not some jumped up window fitter out to slag people off because they don't dedicate their time to a forum. Get a life already.0 -
