Overseas Flights - cancelling internal connecting flight

Generally the only repercussion is if you skip a flight that isn't at the end of your trip - as it causes the rest of them to be cancelled.
While the airlines technically have the right to impose various charges if you do that, they invariably don't if it's a one-off.
Which is what I tried to say at the start of this thread, but the resident "experts" say different, although i do wonder whos side they are on
Like you I have read reports of people doing it, I dont think I have read any reports of people trying it and failing0 -

Regards "Hidden City" or "Point Beyond" ticketing, the pros and cons are also well documented on the aforementioned forum and elsewhere.

You've got the answers you need so I won't go into that, but I think you'll be fine. If you are connecting AA > BA at Heathrow, do you need to change terminals? (I suspect so?). If you are changing terminals then you have a ready made excuse, just say you'd like to collect your bag at Heathrow so you can be sure it makes the connection with you. It's not an outrageous request.
One thing you have in your favour, is that in the US it's generally a much more service based, customer friendly attitude so hopefully they'll be happy to help you without kicking up a fuss.0 -
