Anyone know how? We've used up all the thread, and have a simple coil of replacement thread but I'm not sure how to wind it onto the spool. Which direction? Before, there were 2 ends coming out of the spool opposite each other.

Hi, its difficult to explain how to re string a strimmer, do you still have the instructions on how to put the new strimmy thing on? If you havn't i have got some instructions that i could send to you. It's frustrating as i have had that problem before, then it all sinks in well eventually. I will look the instructions out for you if you like, as i am sure that most petrol strimmers are basically the same. Sorry if i haven't been any help. demented

Hello again, Right first of all sorry about the delay in getting back to you.
I can't find the original instructions for restringing the Strimmer. Mine ran out the day after your post, couldn't find the instructions so had to do it by trial and error, luckly i have had no error.
First of all i had to unravel the replacement "string" Then i unravelled an amount of it, that i thought would fit into the spool. I then cut off the required length and put one end into one of the two holes which should be at the top of the spool, then i pulled that piece of string, back through the other hole, These holes holds the string tight, and pulled the string so that both pieces are the same length. Then i held both pieces of string together and wound them both the same way, so that it was like a double piece around the spool. when i ran out of string, i then got the plastic thing that had a split at the top and also the bottom and put 1 piece of the string through top slit and the other through the lower slit. These slits hold the string in place. Then i put the spring coil into the housing.I then put one piece of the string through one of the holes which comes out of the strimmer on the outside and the other piece of string through the other hole. Then i put the whole thing together and it worked. Sorry if these instructions are a bit confusing. I will still try and find out the proper instructions, or may attempt a couple of sketches. Hope thats some help to you.

Usually the spool on the strimmer has arrows to show which direction to wind the cord on. See if you can find your instruction manual for your particular model or Google for it - to get length required. and how to replace cord (varies from model to model). If still stuck, worth enquiring at your local garden machinery service/repair place who I'm sure will point you in the right direction!
